About

MovePik is run by Kim, an independent developer based in South Korea. It currently has 19 pages in English: free calculators and shopping lists for home projects — paint, flooring, tile, wallpaper, panelling, curtains and outdoor jobs such as mulch, stain, exterior paint and lawn seed. There is no account and no sign-up. You measure your rooms once, choose your materials and get a list of what to buy that you can print or save as a PDF.

How it works

  • Everything runs in your browser. What you type is worked out on your device and is not sent to us or to anyone else.
  • Saving is optional. Tick “Keep my projects on this device” to keep your projects in this browser, or download a backup file and open it again later.
  • No ads where you enter data. Details are in the privacy policy.

How quantities are worked out

Measurements are converted with exact factors (1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 US gallon = 3.785 litres). Wall area is the room's perimeter times its height, minus doors and windows. Paint is the area times the number of coats divided by the coverage on the can. The waste allowance shown on the page is added, and the total is rounded up to whole cans, boxes, rolls or bags, so the list says what to buy and how much will be left over. A missing or impossible measurement is shown as a problem to fix; it is never treated as zero.

The coverage and package sizes are the ones you enter or pick. Check them against the label of the product you buy: real coverage depends on the surface, the colour change and how the paint is applied.

Rounding rules and how pages are checked

  • Four quantities, kept apart. Every material shows the exact amount, the amount with your allowance, the number of packages and the leftover. Packages are never rounded down, and an amount that is exactly a whole number of packages is not pushed up by one.
  • What is added up. Only surfaces assigned to the same material entry (one product, color, finish and package size) are added together before rounding. Primer, paint and flooring are never combined.
  • Display rounding. Numbers are rounded only for display; the rounded figure is never fed back into the calculation.
  • Example values. The starting numbers in a calculator, such as a coverage of 10 m² per liter, are editable examples and not a manufacturer's figures. Use the values on the product you buy.
  • Automated tests. The calculation code has automated tests, including the worked examples printed on the pages, and they are run before each release.
  • Dates. Each calculator and guide shows the date its text or calculator last changed, taken from the site's version history. A page is updated when a mistake is reported or when its calculation or wording changes. The What's new page lists the changes.
  • Scope. The results are quantity estimates. They do not cover structure, electrical, gas or plumbing work, waterproofing, permits or building codes.

Corrections

The worked examples on each page use the same calculation as the calculator and can be checked by hand. If you find a mistake, please tell us on the contact page or e-mail contact@movepik.com and we will correct it.
